Zambia Postal Services Corporation (ZAMPOST) has stepped up its digital transformation agenda with the introduction of new technology platforms aimed at expanding e-commerce, improving last-mile delivery services and increasing access to financial services across the country. In an interview on Thursday in Chilanga with journalists on the side-lines of the validation of a feasibility study for the establishment of a regional postal hub by COMESA, ZAMPOST Postmaster General, Lydia Simakando Lubobya, said the corporation was repositioning itself to remain competitive in an increasingly digital economy amid declining demand for traditional postal services. Speaking on the corporation’s transformation strategy, Lubobya said ZAMPOST had launched the Xampost Express app, a digital platform designed to support e-commerce activities by enhancing parcel delivery services and providing customers with easier access to postal services online.

She said the platform was expected to improve convenience for customers while creating employment opportunities through an expanding network of delivery riders. Lubobya said the corporation was also preparing to launch the Citizen One app, a digital platform that will allow banks, microfinance institutions and insurance companies to offer services through ZAMPOST’s nationwide network of post offices. She explained that the initiative would enable financial institutions to broaden their reach, particularly in rural and underserved communities, without incurring the costs associated with establishing additional physical branches.

According to Lubobya, ZAMPOST’s extensive presence across the country placed it in a strong position to support financial inclusion efforts and bridge gaps in access to essential services. She said the corporation’s long-term objective was to transform itself into a sustainable and profitable state-owned enterprise capable of contributing dividends to the Treasury. “As a national institution with a presence in many parts of the country, we are leveraging our infrastructure to support both digital commerce and financial inclusion,” she said.
