The initiative, which takes place on the first Friday of every month, focused on removing litter generated by discarded airtime scratch cards and other waste materials that continue to contribute to environmental pollution within the city. Toro, joined hands with stakeholders and community members in a coordinated effort to restore cleanliness across key sections of the capital.
Areas covered during the exercise included Jason Moyo Avenue, Rotten Row, Samora Machel Avenue, and the vicinity of the Harare City Council offices. Beyond improving the appearance of the city, the clean-up initiative also contributes to public health by reducing litter that can block drainage systems, create breeding grounds for disease-carrying pests, and negatively impact the urban ecosystem. The monthly programme aligns with Zimbabwe’s national development agenda and Vision 2030 objectives, which place significant emphasis on sustainable environmental management, improved public health, and the creation of clean, modern cities. Participants highlighted the importance of cultivating a culture of environmental awareness among citizens, urging members of the public to dispose of waste responsibly and support efforts aimed at preserving the country’s natural and urban environments.
