The Zambia Police Service in Lusaka says it has apprehended five male suspects in connection with an incident of political violence that occurred in John Howard Compound, Chawama, on June 5, 2026. Police Spokesperson, Godfrey Chilabi, said cases of Aggravated Robbery, Malicious Damage to Property, Assault, and Unlawful Wounding have been recorded following the incident. In a statement issued in Lusaka on Saturday, Chilabi, said the incident occurred around 13:00 hours following a physical confrontation between groups of supporters of the United Party for National Development and the Tonse Pamodzi Alliance.

Chawama Police Station received a report of the incident around 13:10 hours, and police officers were immediately deployed to the scene where they restored order and commenced investigations. Preliminary investigations claim that a group of individuals associated with the Tonse Pamodzi Alliance allegedly attacked and ransacked the UPND Ward 3 Office in John Howard Compound. “During the incident, property was damaged and several items were reported stolen,” Chilabi said.

Gabriel Mwale, aged 45, of John Howard Compound, reported that a laptop belonging to the UPND Ward 3 Office was stolen, though the value of the laptop has not yet been determined. Godfrey Chitalu, aged 51, of Jack Compound, reported that five office tables, chairs and other office equipment were damaged, with damage estimated at K30,000. “Lastone Lungu, aged 21, reported that he was assaulted and sustained back injuries after being hit by stones.
