The Blitzboks will be chasing sevens history this weekend in Bordeaux, France, where they could clinch the HSBC SVNS World Championship, to go with the regular season title. The Springbok Sevens teams head into this weekend’sHSBC SVNS World Championship finale in Bordeauxwith very different narratives, but a shared sense of urgency:the Blitzbokschasing history and silverware, and theSpringbok Womenfighting to secure their place on the global circuit for next season. For the men’s side, captain Impi Visser has framed the campaign around a simple principle: collective effort over individual brilliance.

That mindset, he believes, will determine whether South Africa can convert a strong season into something historic in France, where they have the chance to win both the SVNS Series and the World Championship in the same year. “It is a mindset of ‘team first’ that will carry us through,” Visser said on the eve of the tournament. “It was not the greatest team effort last weekend.

“Sevens is 90% mental and 10% physical. Everyone is fit and strong, so the difference will be in the mindset. That will determine the success of our weekend.” South Africa open their Pool A campaign against Great Britain before meeting Kenya again later on Friday, with Fiji awaiting on Saturday.

While the Blitzboks have beaten all three opponents in recent meetings, Visser insists that will count for little matter much. “GB will come at us again like they did last weekend, and Kenya always come at us,” he said. “We have the skills to beat them, but it is about application and getting the details right.” Despite sitting top of the overall standings and holding a narrow advantage over Argentina and Australia in the World Championship race, Visser is refusing to look beyond the next fixture.

“We are only going to focus on Friday,” he said. “It will be about having the right frame of mind. We know what we can do, but it is not about chasing results, it is about following the process.”
