Police IG touts leadership training

Inspector General (IG) of Police Service Richard Luhanga says they are committed to developing competent executive officers capable of driving professionalism and building a modern police service the country needs. The IG stressed that an institution guided by a clear vision and core values requires knowledgeable leaders to effectively drive its agenda. Said Luhanga: “This is the reason we are under this roof to train and equip our officers with strategic knowledge on how to lead and interact with the people we work with and other stakeholders.

“It has also broadened our understanding of strategic thinking in the execution of our roles.” South West Region Police Commissioner Lovemore Mwabumba hailed the training, describing it as a valuable platform that enabled senior officers to learn from one another and share experiences from their respective areas of responsibility. Facilitator of the training, Naton Kamanga of Kajeno Consulting, said the police service as a security institution needs leaders who understand emotional intelligence to effectively manage themselves and relate positively with others. The two-day training, held from Wednesday to Thursday at Makokola Police Cottage in Mangochi, focused on leadership, strategic thinking, self-awareness and building positive relationships, among other key areas.
