The Government of Mozambique, through the Ministry of Transport and Communications, announced the implementation of subsidy mechanisms for transporters in the urban public passenger transport sector, following the increase in fuel prices. According to a statement received by the TV Miramar newsroom, the measure results from negotiations concluded with sector operators and aims to ensure the maintenance of the currently practiced fares, mitigating the social impact caused by the increase in operational costs, especially in the country’s main urban centers.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications and the Mozambican Federation of Road Transport Associations (FEMATRO) will announce the details of the subsidy mechanisms in a joint press conference today. The Government also appealed to transporters to maintain the current fares, guaranteeing that the additional costs resulting from the rise in fuel prices will be compensated through the agreed measures.
