eThekwini Municipality celebrates culture and talent at Articulate Africa launch

Director of Recreation and Parks Dr Simphiwe Ndlovu unveiling a book containing short stories written by emerging writers during the Articulate Africa Articulate Africa programmes kicked off on a powerful and engaging note in Midway Crossing and Umnini this week. The sessions brought communities together for meaningful conversations, tackling important societal topics. Panel discussions drew keen interest as speakers and attendees unpacked complex matters such as polygamy, the evolving dynamics of relationships including women claiming paternity with multiple partners, and the practical realities of starting and sustaining a business within township economies.

These discussions were not only thought-provoking but also reflective of real experiences within local communities, encouraging honest dialogue and diverse perspectives. Beyond the panel discussions, the programme placed a strong spotlight on literature and storytelling. The Articulate Africa main programme takes place at the Durban Exhibition Centre from 18 to 20 May 2026.

Emerging writers were given a platform to launch their books, marking a significant milestone in their creative journeys. The book talk sessions allowed authors to share the inspiration behind their work, engage directly with readers, and explore themes that resonate with everyday life. These interactions fostered a deeper appreciation for local narratives and highlighted the importance of nurturing new voices in the literary space.

Articulate Africa will be rolled in other regions of eThekwini as it continues with its mission to enrich culture, spark meaningful conversations, and unlock creative potential at grassroots level.

The next programme takes place at Clermont Library on 13 May and Ohlange Secondary on 14 May. The main programme takes place at the Exhibition Centre from 18 to 20 May 2026. Entrance is free.
