TheEnergy Regulation Board(ERB), working with the Task Force on Fuel Smuggling and Illegal Fuel Vending led by theDrug Enforcement Commission(DEC), has uncovered an illegal fuel operation linked toManyanya Oils Limitedin Nakonde District. The operation resulted in the arrest of three individuals connected to the company following an intelligence-led investigation targeting illegal activities in the petroleum sector. Authorities identified the suspects asCharles Sinkamba, 23, who is the director and main shareholder of the company;Martha Nakamba, 28; andCarter Ngosa, 43.
According to investigators, the offences were allegedly part of a coordinated scheme conducted through the company’s operations. The suspects have been charged with several offences, including dumping petroleum products, possession of over-marked and non-conforming petroleum products, failure to make declarations under the Customs and Excise Act, and being in charge of a motor vehicle bearing false registration marks. During the operation, officers intercepted a tanker truck bearing Zambian registration numbers AJD 6372 and AIE 7102.
A search of the vehicle reportedly uncovered a suspected original foreign registration plate, T353 DUF, concealed inside the cabin. Investigators believe the hidden plate was intended to disguise the tanker’s true identity and origin.
