BusinessNewsPoliticsBy Nigel PfundeMVUMA – Dinson Iron and Steel Company (DISCO) has categorically stated that it maintains a respectful and professional working relationship with the government anchored on its contribution to national development, while firmly rejecting any suggestion of partisan or political affiliation, reports Express Mail Zim.The clarification follows reports by some sections of the media alleging impropriety surrounding an alleged visit to its operations by activist and new government critic Rutendo Matinyarare, which the company says unfairly dragged chief executive Benson Xu’s name into matters of political conjecture. In a statement issued on Thursday, DISCO’s public relations department laid bare the company’s position, pouring cold water on what it termed misleading narratives.“DISCO is a strategically positioned industrial enterprise, established for the sole purpose of advancing Zimbabwe’s steel production capacity and contributing meaningfully to the country’s broader economic transformation agenda,” the company said. “The Company operates within a strictly commercial and developmental mandate, underpinned by principles of corporate governance, regulatory compliance and institutional neutrality.”Addressing to the alleged visit by Matinyarare, DISCO sought to strip the encounter of any political interpretation.“Any reference to a visit by Mr. Rutendo Matinyarare must therefore be understood within this standard operational framework,” the statement read.

“The Company categorically affirms that any such visit, if it took place, was informal, non-political, and entirely disconnected from any form of political discourse, alignment, or advocacy.”The steelmaker was unequivocal in distancing its operations from political activity.“DISCO does not participate in, nor does it facilitate, political activities of any nature,” the company said.Crucially, the firm detailed its relationship with the government while drawing a sharp line against partisan entanglement.“The Company maintains a respectful and professional working relationship with the Government of Zimbabwe, anchored on its contribution to national development priorities,” DISCO said. “This relationship, however, does not extend into, nor is it influenced by, partisan or political considerations.”DISCO expressed concern that attempts to ascribe political motives to routine corporate engagements were not only misleading but damaging to a key national asset.“Attempts to ascribe political motives or interpretations to routine corporate engagements are not only misleading but also fundamentally distort the Company’s posture as an apolitical industrial entity,” the statement added. “DISCO unequivocally rejects any narrative that seeks to conflate its operations or leadership with political undertones.

Such assertions are without merit and risk undermining the integrity of a critical national investment.”While disputing the reports in question, the company reiterated its respect for the media, appealing for verified reporting moving forward.“We call upon all media institutions and commentators to exercise the highest standards of journalistic responsibility, ensuring that reporting remains factual, balanced, and free from speculative interpretation,” DISCO said. The company reaffirmed its core mission, stating: “DISCO remains steadfast in its commitment to transparency, professionalism, and its core mandate of industrial development.”Leave a ReplyCancel reply BusinessNewsPoliticsBy Nigel PfundeMVUMA – Dinson Iron and Steel Company (DISCO) has categorically stated that it maintains a respectful and professional working relationship with the government anchored on its contribution to national development, while firmly rejecting any suggestion of partisan or political affiliation, reports Express Mail Zim.The clarification follows reports by some sections of the media alleging impropriety surrounding an alleged visit to its operations by activist and new government critic Rutendo Matinyarare, which the company says unfairly dragged chief executive Benson Xu’s name into matters of political conjecture.
