Regional football in uMgungundlovu is set for a thrilling showdown as the Safa uMgungundlovu Hollywood League playoffs promise a weekend of high-intensity action. The decisive fixtures will take place at Banqobile Stadium in Mkhambathini on May 16 and 17, with kick-off scheduled for 11.30am. Four of the district’s top-performing sides — Celtic United FC (A Stream winners), Midlands Academy (B Stream winners), Maqongqo City FC (C Stream winners) and Dargle FC (D Stream winners) — have earned their places after consistent performances throughout the season.

Safa uMgungundlovu regional executive officer Makhetha Mzimela said the association is confident the playoffs will deliver a fiercely competitive spectacle. “All four teams have shown consistency and commitment by honouring their fixtures and performing well across the season,” said Mzimela. “As stream winners, they have already proven themselves against strong opposition.

We believe these are the top teams in the region, and the competition will be tough for everyone involved.” Mzimela also highlighted the perseverance shown by some of the competing teams, noting that their qualification is the result of years of determination. “In football, you don’t stop trying until you succeed. Teams like Celtic United and Maqongqo City have come close before but fell short.
