Provincial commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the sentencing of 24-year-old Thabang Hendrick Letsebe for the murder of his two-year-old son, reportsLetaba Herald. Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the incident occurred on October 6, 2024, in Shongoane village, outside Lephalale. “Police responded to a call from a community member at about 06:00.

Upon arrival, they were shown the mutilated body of the boy lying on a bed,” Ledwaba said. The child’s father was found at the scene in possession of some of the victim’s body parts and was immediately arrested and charged with murder. The case was investigated by Warrant Officer Tebele Mafokoane of the Villa Nora Detectives Unit, who successfully opposed bail, ensuring the accused remained in custody throughout the trial.

Yesterday (May 5), the Polokwane High Court sentenced Letsebe to 20 years’ direct imprisonment. Hadebe described the incident as ‘senseless and horrific’, commending the investigating officer and all role players for securing the conviction. “We will continue to prioritise crimes against vulnerable children and ensure that perpetrators receive the harshest sentences possible.
