SIX people have been arrested in theCopperbelt Provincefor allegedly being in possession of suspected stolen copper ore following a public tip-off. Copperbelt Police Commanding OfficerMwala Yuyiconfirmed the incident at a press briefing in Ndola yesterday. He said the copper ore was loaded in a tipper truck that was intercepted by police inLuanshya.
According to Yuyi, the truck was coming from Luanshya and was heading to an unknown destination at the time of interception. He said the exact volume of copper ore found in the truck has not yet been established. Out of the six suspects currently in police custody, five are believed to be employees of a man who identified himself as the owner of the consignment.
Yuyi said the operation was launched after members of the public provided information that led to the interception of the vehicle. He said the suspects have been charged with being in possession of suspected stolen goods. “We warn all those who are in the thieving profession to change their ways because we will make sure that the law catches up with them,” Yuyi said. He added that police will continue to intensify operations aimed at curbing the theft of public resource
