Gabon reiterates its support for the Moroccan Sahara

The Gabonese Republic reiterated, on Tuesday 14 april 2026 its support for the Moroccan Sahara, welcoming the historic adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2797. During a meeting in Rabat with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, the head of the Gabonese diplomacy, Marie-Edith Tassyla-Ye-Doumbeneny, on a visit of friendship and work in the Kingdom, reiterated his country’s support for the Moroccan Sahara, reaffirming its full support for the Moroccan Plan of Autonomy, as the only credible and realistic solution to the regional dispute. In a joint statement issued at the end of this meeting, the head of Gabonese diplomacy welcomed the historic adoption, on October 31, 2025, by the United Nations Security Council, of Resolution 2797, which enshrines, within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty, the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco as the only serious, credible and lasting basis to reach a political solution to the artificial dispute around the Sahara.

Gabon’s position is part of the international dynamic driven by the King of Morocco, Mohammed VI, in favor of the autonomy plan and the sovereignty of the Kingdom over its Sahara.
