Now in its third year, the annual competition invites South African schools to share how flying will open new doors for their learners. Johannesburg –For the third year running, FlySafair is opening the doors to its much‑loved School Booster competition, giving South African schools the chance to win 10 return domestic flights each. Ten schools will be selected, with the prize awarded to institutions that can best demonstrate how taking to the skies will create meaningful new opportunities for their learners.
“Three years in, and the School Booster never gets old,” says Kirby Gordon, Chief Marketing Officer at FlySafair. “Every year, we read through hundreds of entries from schools across the country – from urban centres to small towns we don’t always hear about – and what strikes us every time is the ambition. These schools are working hard, their learners are achieving, and sometimes all they need is the chance to get somewhere.
That’s what we’re here for.” Since the competition launched in 2024, FlySafair has awarded flights to 13 schools across South Africa. In its inaugural year, three schools took home 10 return flights each: Benjamin Pine Primary School in KwaZulu‑Natal, Potchefstroom Central School in North West, and ESCA Wanderers in Gauteng. The 2025 edition saw the competition grow significantly, with entries topping 788 as 10 schools were selected to receive flights, bringing the total number of beneficiary schools to 13.

As in previous years, FlySafair representatives will personally visit the winning schools to hand over their flights in the form of a giant boarding pass. “South Africa is full of talented, driven young people who deserve every opportunity to grow and to compete,” adds Gordon. “A school tour to a different province, a sporting final at the coast, an academic Olympiad in another city – these experiences stay with young people for life.
The School Booster is our way of saying: your school has what it takes; let us help you get there.” This year’s School Booster competition opens on 8 April 2026 and closes on 29 April 2026. The Artist Project, which commissions original artworks from local artists for installation onboard FlySafair aircraft, brings South African creativity to 30,000 feet. “Flying opens up the world – and for a young person experiencing it for the first time, it’s genuinely magical,” says Gordon.
“We’ve been in the business of getting South Africans in the air since 2014, and the School Booster is one of the ways we get to share that magic with the next generation. We can’t wait to read this year’s entries.”
