A pregnant woman is fighting for her life in hospital following a shooting incident at Port Edward beach on the KZN South Coast. The woman, believed to be in her 30s, was shot, allegedly following a violent altercation at around 10:30 pm. KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service said they responded to reports of a shooting at the Port Edward Main Beach parking area.

Spokesperson Chris Botha said upon arrival, paramedics encountered a chaotic and harrowing scene. “The victim, a woman in her early 30s who is four months pregnant, had been shot following an alleged dispute that erupted during a romantic encounter within a vehicle. “Preliminary reports suggest that the victim attempted to exit the car when she was shot from behind.

“The gunshot caused devastating internal damage, entering through her back and exiting via her abdomen.” Botha said members of the NSRI Station 32 and the South African Police Service were first on the scene, providing initial medical treatment to the victim as she lay on the ground. “KwaZulu Private Ambulance paramedics immediately took over clinical management, using advanced life-saving interventions to stabilize the patient. “Due to the severity of the abdominal trauma and the high-risk nature of her pregnancy, the victim was stabilized under intensive care conditions before being rushed to a specialized medical facility for emergency treatment.”
