A 50-year- old man of Kapinda village, in Sinda district, has been murdered by unknown people after a drinking spree. Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer, Robertson Mweemba has confirmed the development the media. He says police received a report from the deceased’s cousin, Pearson Banda, 33, who reported that his cousin had been murdered by unknown people.
Mr Mweemba said brief facts indicate that on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at around 07:00hrs, Julius Mwale, the now deceased told his wife that he was going to do some piece work at some fields with a friend named Gezani Banda, of Mvekani village. “Around 18:00hrs, they both went to the residence of Anna Mwale where they started drinking a locally brewed beer known as kachasu,” he said. Mr Mweemba said, as time went on, the two were joined by Richard Phiri and Aaron Mwale, and they continued drinking beer.
However, the following day, Sunday, April 12, at around 02:00 hrs, Julius Mwale was found dead outside the residence of Anna Mwale and the matter was reported to the police. Police visited the scene and the body was picked and deposited into St. Francis Hospital Mortuary; a postmortem examination was conducted as Police suspected poisoning.

“We have received the results of the postmortem, and it indicates that the deceased was murdered using unknown instruments,” Mr Mweemba said. Police have since opened a docket and have arrested people who were last seen with the deceased, to assist with investigations.
