Mzimba senior chief tips local structures on CDF projects

Senior Chief Mpherembe of Mzimba District has advised area development committees (ADCs) to prioritise projects that directly improve people’s lives when selecting initiatives to be implemented under the reformed K5 billion Constituency Development Fund (CDF). The chief said this on Saturday during an ADC meeting held to select projects for implementation in the 2026/27 financial year. “I want to appeal to ADC members to ensure that they pick projects that will lead to tangible improvements in people’s lives,” said Mpherembe.

Mpherembe ADC chairperson Edson Mwira said Mzimba West Constituency has many development needs but the committees were guided by urgency and impact. “Some of the proposed projects include road construction, maintenance of health centres, school infrastructure, toilets, irrigation projects and rehabilitation of Admarc facilities. However, due to limited resources, we have chosen what we believe are the most pressing needs,” he said.

Mzimba West legislator Ackim Kumwenda (Independent) commended the ADC members for their role in identifying priority areas. “There are many dilapidated school blocks and health facilities that require urgent attention, including staff houses to attract health workers. The selected projects reflect the needs of the people and we will implement them once funds are disbursed,” he said.
