The mangled wreckage of a silver Renault Triber sits on the M17 after a deadly head-on collision with a heavy truck in Gqeberha Seven people were killed in a horrific head-on crash between a car and a truck in Gqeberha on Easter Sunday. The disaster happened on the M17 road betweenKwazakheleand Motherwell at about 3pm. Eastern Cape traffic spokesperson Unathi Binqose said a Renault Triber carrying seven people smashed into a large manganese truck travelling in the opposite direction.
He said emergency services arrived to find that everyone inside the car had died on impact. The truck driver survived the crash but was treated for shock and trauma. “The Renault Triber, transporting three males and four females, was travelling up, from KwaZakhele towards Motherwell, while the truck was travelling in the opposite direction, downwards from Motherwell towardsKwazakhele,” Binqose said.
“All seven occupants of the Renault Triber were declared dead on the scene by emergency services. “The truck driver survived the crash and was treated for trauma.” Binqose said the cause of the crash was still under investigation. “A case of culpable homicide has been opened at the Swartkops police station,” he said.
