UTM Party president Dalitso Kabambe has cautioned that Malawi is treading a dangerous economic path, pointing to a soaring cost of living and deepening hardships for ordinary citizens. In his Easter message released on Thursday, Kabambe urged Malawians not to “normalise” economic suffering, arguing that the current trajectory enriches a few while the majority struggle in silence. He identified rising fuel prices as a primary driver of inflation, noting that increased transport and production costs inevitably squeeze households with stagnant incomes.
“People are working hard to put food on the table, yet the system seems to reward failure and punish effort,” Kabambe said. Drawing on the symbolism of the season, the UTM leader likened the nation’s plight to a period of suffering that precedes renewal. “Like Christ on the cross, Malawi has been stretched, tested, and wounded,” he said.
“But Easter teaches us that suffering is not the end of the story. It is a passage—a preparation for resurrection”. Kabambe maintained that the solution lies in his party’s “Third Revolution” agenda.

This plan aims to address structural economic failures by restoring governance discipline, stabilising the economy, and creating jobs through strategic investments in agriculture, mining, tourism, and manufacturing. He emphasised that these reforms are a “governing obligation” rather than a mere campaign promise. Democratic Progressive Party spokesperson Shadric Namalomba said he could not comment on the matter as he was attending a church service.
