Now in its 17th year, the festival has built a reputation for delivering top-tier school rugby, offering spectators an exciting mix of playing styles and some of the country’s most promising young talent. Matches take place over three action-packed days during the Easter weekend which started yesterday and will continue tomorrow and Monday.
This year’s festival will feature 12 competitive 1st XV boys high school teams, complemented by four U16 girls’ teams who will take to the field during lunchtime fixtures and 12 primary school teams competing on an adjacent field. They will be joined by Hoërskool Rustenburg (North West), Hoërskool Framesby (Gqeberha), Milnerton High School (Cape Town) and Zimbabwe’s Peterhouse Boys’ School, returning for their second appearance at the festival.
KZN’s proud rugby tradition will be represented by Durban High School (DHS), Westville Boys’ High, Glenwood High School and hosts Kearsney College. The festival also highlights the growth of the girls’ game, with U16 teams from Mowat Park High (Montclair), Grosvenor Girls’ High (Bluff), Ohlange High School (Inanda) and Ogwini Comprehensive Technical High School (Umlazi) set to showcase their skills. Adding to the festive atmosphere, 12 primary school teams will experience the thrill of festival rugby in front of enthusiastic crowds.
