Harare –A prominent Harare based medical practitioner, Dr Micky Kondo and high profile woman Kernisha Sheila Hunzwi are facing joint charges of fraud and defeating the ends of justice, marking a development in a criminal matter that has drawn considerable public and professional attention, Express Mail Zim can report. The two have been served with summons to appear for trial next week at the Harare Magistrates Court. According to the State, the charges originate from an incident where Dr Kondo allegedly authored a medical letter intended to support a High Court child custody dispute where Hunzvi wanted to use a child she sired with her ex businessman husband(name witheld) as a bait to siphon funds.

Prosecutors contend that Dr Kondo had no prior professional relationship with or had ever examined the client, Ms Hunzwi for whom the letter was written. It is alleged that Ms Hunzwi visited Dr Kondo’s practice at Eastgate Mediclinic, paying US$500 for a consultation, an amount for which she received a formal receipt that was subsequently presented to the police. Following this consultation, Ms Hunzwi reportedly obtained a letter purportedly from DrKondo, which was allegedly crafted to strengthen her position in the ongoing custody proceedings with the local businessman.

The document is said to have included claims pertaining the businessman raising a stink regarding its authenticity and the conditions under which it was produced. Further complicating the matter, Ms Hunzwi’s lawyer Shepard Ringoziva, is married to an individual employed by Dr Kondo. The State further alleges that Ms Hunzwi had previously sought documentation from multiple medical practitioners with the aim of alienating the child from her former husband, a claim that shows the gravity of the case.

Dr Kondo initially denied the allegations, stating in his warned and cautioned statement that the disputed letter was fraudulent and that he had no involvement in its creation. The case is considered high-stakes, not only due to its legal ramifications but also because the Medical and Dental Practitioners Council is reportedly conducting parallel proceedings into Dr Kondo’s professional conduct. The outcomes of both the criminal trial and the professional inquiry could have severe consequences for all parties involved. The criminal trial is scheduled to commence next week, with both parties having received their summons within the mandated seven-day notice period.
