DID the suicidal truck driver who killed himself, and his four-month-old child, at his brother-in-law’s house in Chitungwa, DRUG the toddler before murdering him? This is one of the questions which members of the St Mary’s community are asking themselves in the wake of this shocking tragedy. They are questioning how Tonderai Spacious Mukaro managed to travel from his base in Pretoria to Chitungwiza driving a truck with his four-month-old toddler, Junior, on board.

All the child’s documents were left behind at their home in Pretoria. Community members are questioning how the baby made the journey without crying, or showing signs of distress, which might have alerted some people along the way. “We are demanding answers from the Mukaro family on how Tonderai travelled with his baby,” said a community member who suspects the toddler was drugged.

“Why did Tonderai’s sister allow him to retire to bed with such a baby? “We have more questions than answers, especially considering Christine’s behaviour at the burial.” “After hearing that Tonderai was having problems with his wife, why did Samantha (his sister) decide not to sleep with the baby? “We are appealing to the police to investigate this case even deeper so that truck drivers do not ferry human beings in the same way they smuggle drugs.” Tonderai had claimed that he found his wife, Christine, in bed with their landlord at their home in Pretoria.
