An elderly woman is recovering at a specialist medical facility after suffering serious injuries in a dog attack. The woman, believed to be in her 70s, had been walking toward Scottsville Mall when she was attacked by two dogs that escaped from a nearby property. KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service spokesperson Craig Botha described the incident as particularly violent.
He said that paramedics were called to Christie Road at 1:30 pm yesterday after reports of a severe dog attack. According to Botha, the situation unfolded when a house sitter arrived at a residence and opened the gate to enter. At that moment, the two dogs rushed out of the yard and ran toward the street, where they attacked the passing pedestrian.
Emergency responders arrived to find the woman in a critical state, with significant injuries, including a severe and disfiguring bite wound to her face. Botha urged residents to take extra precautions to ensure their pets are properly secured, especially when gates are opened, to prevent similar incidents from occurring.
