38-year-old Mpulungu man arrested for defiling stepdaughter, aged 9

Police have arrested a 38-year-old man of Mpulungu for having unlawful carnal knowledge of his nine-year-old stepdaughter. The matter was reported by his wife, aged 31, who told police that her husband had defiled her daughter. Brief facts indicate that on March 27, 2026, around 23:00 hours, the accused, his wife, and their four children were all asleep in the sitting room.

The eldest among the children—the victim—was awakened when she began crying loudly, alerting the mother. Northern Province Commanding Officer Zambia Police Service official, Simunji Mulonda, said in a statement on Saturday that when the mother woke up, she saw her husband dressing up before he quickly walked out of the house. “The victim was crying, and her mother checked her and saw a whitish substance on her thighs.

The child was pointing to her private part, indicating it was painful,” Mulonda said. The mother immediately called village committee members, who inspected the child and advised her not to bathe the victim. The following morning, around 09:00 hours, the woman located her husband, who was later taken to the village headman.

The headman advised her to report the matter to police. Mulonda said the suspect was handed over to police and will appear in court soon.
