‘Moving on up’ with the Suzuki Across

The M People (a British Dance Music Band) had a hit with the song Moving on up in the late eighties. The song speaks about “nothing stopping you from whatever you want to achieve”. Similarly, the S people (that’s the Suzuki folks) want you to also move up in their latest offering in the Across, in which nothing can stop you from enjoying the best.

And why should anything stop you, especially as the Across has all the offerings in a superbly crafted family SUV, with a price tag, fuel economy and space, that is set to take the SA motoring industry to another level. The Across has dashing good looks with cutting-edge technology, class-leading safety features, an efficient mild-hybrid petrol engine and family-friendly space and practicality. I put the Across it’s through its paces in Cape Town recently, via some of the most undulating roads packed with twists and turns, in free open road and in heavy urban traffic. The long straights really examined the SUV’s reaction to speeds around 120km/h and I am happy to report that it handled really well. Under the bonnetA mild-hybrid powertrain for lower running costs.

It’s Suzuki’s dependable K15C engine with progressive mild-hybrid technology, offering a fine balance of efficiency and performance, with 76kW. The mild-hybrid system works continuously to assist the petrol engine, helping it deliver the kind of responsive performance expected from a naturally aspirated motor, while reducing fuel consumption and emissions. This system enables a combined average fuel consumption of 5,3l/ 100km. The key component of the mild-hybrid system is the integrated starter generator (ISG), which assists the petrol engine under load and recovers kinetic energy during deceleration.
