BENJANI Mwaruwari says never put himself into the picture to coach the Warriors because he is still A BABY in the coaching trenches. The former Warriors skipper is now in charge of Highlanders. It’s his second coaching role in the Castle Lager Premiership after he took charge of Ngezi Platinum Stars.

The partnership ended after a brief period when the club relieved Benjani of his duties in the wake of a poor run of results. He has since won his case after suing the club for unfair dismissal. He is set to receive more than US$500,000 as compensation.

He told Zimpapers Sport that while it is every coach’s dream to take charge of his national team, he doesn’t believe he has the right experience to lead the Warriors. “All coaches wish to coach the national team but I’m still a baby in coaching,” he said after his side played out a goalless draw against the Warriors in an exhibition match at Barbourfields on Wednesday. The match was arranged for the Warriors to play a part in celebrating Bosso’s 100 years of existence.

“I’m still learning, when the time is right, I wish I will do that and become a good coach for the national team.” Benjani’s romance with Bosso has started with four straight draws. His charges are already eight points adrift of leaders CAPS United, who have a 100 percent record, after winning all their opening four games. While Bosso will consider the two points they won on the road against Dynamos and Simba Bhora, who are also unbeaten in the league, as important points, they will be disappointed with the four points they dropped against MWOS and Bulawayo City.

Had they converted those draws into wins, Benjani and his team would have been sitting in second place on eight points on the table. Turning to the performance of his charges’ against the senior national team, Benjani noted some positives, saying it was pleasing that they are now able to play from the back with aplomb.
