FORMER boxing star Alfonso “Mosquito” Zvenyika is a relieved man and was in tears yesterday. Pacific 24HR Hospital has offered free medical assistance to his ailing wife. His appeal for a helping hand was first published in H-Metro.

In a statement, Dr Michael Mandaza of Pacific 24HR Hospital, said he believes the corporate world should work together with communities and the government to support vulnerable members of society. “Following The Herald article on the former boxer Alfonso ‘Mosquito’ Zvenyika needing assistance for his wife’s medical care, Pacific 24HR Hospital is prepared to offer free medical consultation, assessment, treatment support, and help her recover. “If ordinary X-rays and scans are required, the hospital will cover the cost to ensure she receives the necessary care,” said Dr Mandaza.

Responding to the hospital’s offer, Zvenyika said he was humbled by the support and that it brought him to tears. “I want to thank Pacific 24HR Hospital authorities and the entire staff for listening to me, supporting me, and wiping my tears,” he said. “Zvandaitirwa izvi ngavasagumira pandiri chete asi vaitirewo vamwe nepavagoneswa na Mwari.” Zvenyika also addressed the negative comments he received after he publicly appealed for help for his wife.
