Faizan Global Relief Foundation has supported 100 households from the Southern Region with money to start small-scale businesses to build resilience against climate change related shocks. The initiative, launched in Blantyre on Wednesday, is part of a bigger campaign to empower less-privileged households economically through businesses. Under the initiative, each beneficiary received K1 million after undergoing a business training facilitated by the organisation.
Faizan Global Relief Foundation Africa head Usman Madani said to ensure success, they trained the beneficiaries how to run business. He said: “We expect the beneficiaries to use the capital prudently to improve their livelihood. We have advised them to open bank accounts for accountability.
We will always come after two months and monitor the process. We need them to sustain their businesses so that their children and grandchildren should inherit it.” Business tycoon Hanif Osman of OG Issa Group of Companies encouraged beneficiaries to do their business with discipline while Abdul Munaf of Siku Groups of Companies emphasised the importance of hard work and record-keeping. A beneficiary Ishmael Amidu from Kambulaje Village in Traditional Authority Kawinga said he will use the money to open a restaurant business.
