Illegal Miner Hacks 21-Year-Old Girlfriend to Death…

A 21-year-old woman ofChipatahas been brutally murdered in an attack allegedly carried out by her boyfriend, who is reported to be involved in illegal gold mining. The victim,Violet Sakala, was allegedly attacked by her loverMphandika Phirion Friday afternoon after the two had spent most of the day together. According to reports, Phiri later asked Violet to accompany him as he headed towardNchaba Villagewhile carrying gold in his possession.

However, along a secluded road nearMadzimoyo Secondary School, the suspect allegedly attacked the young woman with a knife, inflicting multiple deep cuts. Confirming the incident,Robertson Mweembasaid the victim sustainedthree deep cuts on the neck and one deep cut on the breast, believed to have been inflicted using a sharp instrument. Police say Violet was last seen alive walking with Phiri after he asked her to escort him.

Neighbours later became concerned after hearing desperate screams coming from the area. At around17:00 hours, the victim’s brother,Davison Sakala, was alerted about the incident and reported the matter toChipata Central Police Station. Police officers who visited the scene confirmed the killing and later recovered aknife believed to have been used in the attackabout12.5 metresfrom where the body was found.
