Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has engaged former Flames midfielder Fischer Kondowe as physical fitness trainer. The Bullets legend joined the camp yesterday, replacing Peter Mgangira after his club Silver Strikers refused to release him to join the Malawi National Football Team. FAM in a statement confirmed the hiring of Kondowe on temporary basis.
The statement reads in part: “Flames head coach Kallisto Pasuwa has roped in Fischer Anong’a Kondowe as the team’s fitness coach to replace Peter Mgangira, who is currently committed to club duties ahead of the 2026/27 season.” Kondowe in an interview said he was honoured to step in to assist the Zimbabwean tactician. “I am glad that the head coach decided to pick me for the responsibility and I promise to give my best,” he said. The development marks the two coaches’ reunion having also worked together at FCB Nyasa Bullets in the same positions.
Pasuwa has named a 23-member squad composed of local players for the tournament set for March 23 to 31 in Botswana. The coach has handed maiden senior national team call-ups to defenders Alex Kambilinya of Tigers FC, Dan Sandukira of Silver Strikers, Hermas Masinja of Ekhaya FC and Charles Mafaiti of Civil Service United. Mighty Wanderers forward Wallace Adam has also received his first senior call-up. Pasuwa will name foreign based players next week, according to FAM.
