Multiple learners at a secondary school in Wentworth, KZN, were transported to nearby medical facilities this morning after a suspected gas leak left the learners having difficulties breathing.ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson shared that the incident likely stemmed from a gas leak from a nearby property, which then spread into the school,reportsSouthlands Sun.“Upon arrival, paramedics found multiple learners experiencing respiratory distress. One learner is believed to have had some sort of seizure,” says Jamieson.While investigations are underway, it is believed that the strong smell is coming from the Island View direction near the harbour. ALS Paramedics, along with EMRS Paramedics, were working together to stabilise as many learners as they could at the location.
Jamieson adds that the eThekwini Fire Department was also on scene and has secured the area, ensuring the safety of the medical personnel. As a safety measure, the school was closed for the day, and parents were urged to fetch their children.
