THE officer-in-charge of the Harare Magistrate Police Post, Inspector Ropafadzo Mutapiri, says she is concerned about the rising number of cases in which children are being raped by their relatives. She spoke during a community meeting, which is part of an awareness campaign against crime, which was held ahead of court sessions on Friday. “Parents and guardians must prioritise open discussions with their children, especially after school,” she said.
“Such communication enables children to share their experiences and potentially reveal abusive family members.” Insp Mutapiri, said crimes related to drugs and domestic violence were tearing Zimbabwean society apart. She said many violent crimes were being committed by people under the influence of drugs. “Domestic violence not only harms the individuals involved but also severely impacts children,” she said.
“We advocate for peace and urgently call for an end to gender-based violence and substance abuse. “It is essential that we confront these issues collectively to foster a safer environment for everyone.” Insp Mutapiri urged couples to resolve conflicts amicably and to seek guidance from local elders. Meanwhile, a room at the Harare Magistrates Court has been designated for inter-denominational church services.

This is meant to provide spiritual support to officials and individuals awaiting updates on court proceedings. Various church leaders will take turns ministering in this room, reinforcing community bonds and support during challenging times.
