Confederation Africa Football (CAF) has rescheduled the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon) tournament which will be hosted by Morocco. The tournament, initially scheduled to take place from March 17 to April 3 will now be held from July 25 to August 16. The statement reads in part: “After discussions between CAF and its partners, Fifa and other stakeholders, CAF decided to reschedule the dates of the 2026 TotalEnergies CAF Wafcon, to 25 July to 16 August 2026, to ensure the success of this important women’s competition, in the light of certain unforeseen circumstances.” The 2026 edition will see the best women’s national teams in Africa, including the Scorchers, competing for continental glory.

The rescheduling of the tournament comes just days after Football Association of Malawi (FAM) announced that the Scorchers would break camp until further notice. FAM operations director Gomezgani Zakazaka said the decision is a blessing in disguise. He said: “On one hand, it has affected us because the team was already in camp for the tournament after competing at Cosafa Women’s Champions in South Africa.
