Chinese vehicle and components manufacturer SG Automotive Group Co plans to establish a vehicle assembly plant in Mozambique, including electric buses, with the potential to create 3,000 jobs, the government announced yesterday. A delegation from SG Automotive Group Co is in Mozambique “on a ten-day market study mission and has expressed interest in investing in the country, particularly in the potential establishment of a vehicle assembly plant, including electric buses,” the Ministry of Economy said in a statement. Company representatives met with Mozambique’s Minister of Economy, Basílio Muhatey, with the Moamba Industrial Park in Maputo Province, in the south of the country, identified as a potential site for the plant.

The initiative is expected to stimulate the local economy and strengthen industrial development. The Ministry of Economy’s statement also noted that Mozambique’s strategic geographic location and the performance of national logistics corridors could allow the company to access not only the domestic market but also regional markets. According to the government’s statement, SG Automotive Group has around 30 years of experience producing electric buses, trucks, tow vehicles, and automotive components.”
