The United States and the Government of Mozambique have agreed to establish an Economic and Commercial Bilateral Working Group to strengthen economic and commercial ties between the two countries. The establishment of the Working Group follows the successful visit of Mozambican President Daniel Chapo to the United States in October 2025, which reaffirmed the mutual commitment of both governments to deepen bilateral engagement and expand opportunities for trade, investment, and sustainable economic growth. This announcement also comes on the heels of a commercial diplomacy visit to Maputo by Sarah Troutman, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, from February 25 to March 1, underscoring the mutual commitment to high-level commercial engagement between the United States and Mozambique.
The Economic and Commercial Bilateral Working Group will serve as a regular forum to identify business enabling environment challenges and develop practical solutions to overcome these challenges and improve U.S. trade and investment. The goal of the Working Group is to foster a more transparent, predictable, and business-enabling environment that benefits both Mozambican and American companies.
