By A Correspondent – The government has announced the passing of Ms Venus Showa, a former diplomat, who died on Friday, 1 August 2025, in Harare Ms Showa in various diplomatic missions She was Executive Assistant to the Ambassador at Zimbabwe’s Embassy in Dakar, Senegal, before briefly returning to Head Office in Harare She was later posted to Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, where she played a key role in the establishment of Zimbabwe’s Embassy there

Upon her return to Harare, she continued to serve in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs within the Public Diplomacy Department until her retirement Remembered for her diligence, humility, and exceptional institutional memory, Ms Showa was known for her dedication, professionalism, and deep understanding of the Ministry’s operations and ethos Her passing is a great loss to all who had the honour of working with her “She ran her race with dedication and honesty

We all pray for her soul to rest in eternal peace,” said Ambassador James Maridadi in a statement Maridadi, who is currently Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Senegal, has had a diverse and noteworthy career in both public service and politics He rose to prominence as a seasoned broadcaster with the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC), where his articulate and engaging style made him a household name He later transitioned into politics, winning the Mabvuku-Tafara parliamentary seat in the 2013 elections under the banner of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T), led at the time by Morgan Tsvangirai

During his tenure in Parliament, Maridadi was known for his sharp debating skills and fearless scrutiny of government excesses He was especially vocal on issues related to governance, media freedom, and public accountability He earned a reputation as one of the most articulate opposition MPs of his time After stepping away from frontline politics, Maridadi was appointed a diplomat, a move that surprised some but was seen by others as a recognition of his communication skills and international outlook

In his role as a diplomat, he has brought the same passion for service and professionalism that defined his media and political careers She was laid to rest on Monday, 4 August 2025, in Harare She is survived by her two sons, Mukai Greham and Munyaradzi, both of whom are based in Canada Source: Zimeye
