MAGGIE Chidarikire has taken the first steps to follow in the footsteps of her father by being elected the Deputy Mayor of Chinhoyi. Her father, Faber Chidarikire, once served as mayor. She beat Voster Mashevedzanwa to win the contest to become Deputy Mayor after getting 12 votes.
Chidarikire told H- Metro that being elected Deputy Mayor highlights the growing importance of women in Council leadership. โIt is a statement of confidence, I accept the responsibility with full awareness that leadership is not about titles but about service. โThis underscores that leadership is a collaborative effort focused on serving the community, not personal prestige.
โItโs about accountability and good governance, โ said Chidarikire. She added: โI am here to support the Mayor of Chinhoyi in discharging these duties and strengthening institutional accountability and restoring public confidence in the Council,โ she said. Chidarikire said the trust in her demonstrated a commitment to supporting existing leadership and rebuilding trust within the community.

โTo the young girls out there, I stand as a witness that leadership can also come to us as women. I just want to tell them that their voice matters and I am a testimony to that. โThe presence of women in Council leadership brings diverse perspectives and experiences to decision-making processes.
