It was one of those rare occasions when Soccer City did not host a Soweto derby. It was refreshing to see the crowd at Saturday’s derby turn out earlier than usual, a sign of newfound enthusiasm among fans. With whispers of a call to action from event organisers throughout the week, supporters made a concerted effort to arrive on time, ensuring the game commenced promptly at 3.30pm.

This triumph marks Pirates’ fifth consecutive league win over their arch-rivals, solidifying their current dominance in the country’s most-watched sporting contest.
Chiefs, however, scored a win over Pirates in last season’s Nedbank Cup final, which was Amakhosi’s first title in a decade.
