A female police detective was shot and killed at a residence in Oakford, near Verulam in KwaZulu-Natal, on Thursday afternoon. Prem Balram, spokesperson for Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa), said they received a call from residents reporting that a police officer was under attack. Balram said reaction officers were immediately dispatched and arrived at the property just before 2 pm.
“On arrival, officers found an elderly female seated outside the kitchen entrance of the home. A neighbour directed first responders into the residence. “Inside the house, the detective was located lying in a prone position between the kitchen and the living room.
She had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was found in a pool of blood. Several spent 9mm cartridges were recovered at the scene.” Balram said that witnesses on the scene said the woman arrived at her mother’s residence in a white BMW 320D shortly before the incident. “She left the vehicle door ajar while offloading food and entered the home.
