Police in Lusaka have arrested three suspects in connection with the suspected murder of retiredZambia Air ForceBrigadier General Mike Obistor Mbewe. Police Service Deputy Public Relations Officer,Chipo Kaitisha, identified the suspects as Christopher Banda, 23, of Chainda Compound; Gift Chisenga, 24, of 10 Miles in the Mungule area; and a 19-year-old juvenile, also of Chainda Compound. Officers responded and recovered the vehicle.
The keys were later found in the possession of the 19-year-old suspect, who allegedly informed police that he had collected the vehicle from the NAPSA Flats area together with Gift Chisenga before parking it near the church. Later that day, at about 16:00 hours, Ethel Mbewe, 49, reported her brother missing. She told police that Brigadier General Mbewe had left his residence in Chongwe on February 22, 2026, around 18:00 hours and did not return home.
Investigations led to the arrest of Gift Chisenga on February 25, 2026, followed by the apprehension of Christopher Banda. Preliminary findings indicate that Banda allegedly met the deceased in Chainda Compound and drove him to a nearby mountainous area. Police suspect that Brigadier General Mbewe may have been poisoned after reportedly becoming unconscious at the location.

The suspects are alleged to have abandoned him at the scene before driving his vehicle back to Chainda Compound, where it was later discovered. The trio later led officers to a mountainous area in Meanwood Ibex, where the body of Brigadier General Mbewe was found. The body has since been deposited in the mortuary at theUniversity Teaching Hospitalpending a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death. All three suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue.
