Her Excellency Cheryl Urban, Canada’s Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM) for Africa, concluded a visit to Mozambique focused on strengthening the Canada–Mozambique bilateral relationship and advancing shared economic prosperity. Building on a strong foundation of more than 50 years of partnership, Canada is placing greater emphasis on trade and mutually beneficial economic opportunities, while maintaining robust cooperation in development, humanitarian assistance, and other shared priorities. During her visit, ADM Urban met with senior government officials, including His Excellency Basílio Muhate, Minister of Economy, to review the long‑standing development partnership and explore opportunities to deepen cooperation under Canada’s Africa Strategy: A Partnership for Shared Prosperity and Security.

ADM Urban also engaged with women leaders, civil society organizations, and multilateral partners, reiterating Canada’s strong commitment to democratic principles, inclusive governance, and sustainable development. She visited the Sexual and Reproductive Health Education (SHARE) project in Boane District, implemented by Canadian organization Right To Play. SHARE is a CAD$ 35 million, multi‑country initiative that expands access to adolescent‑friendly health services for youth aged 10–24 and addresses stigma related to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR).

Canada remains in solidarity with the Government and people of Mozambique as the country confronts severe flooding that has displaced families and damaged infrastructure across several provinces. In this context, ADM Urban announced a CAD$ 5.426 million contribution to ongoing humanitarian response efforts. This funding complements Canada’s existing support to the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) and the UN Disaster Assessment and Coordination (UNDAC) system.
