The Angolan construction and public works group Omatapalo announced on Wednesday in Maputo its intention to expand operations to Mozambique this year, following a meeting with Mozambican President Daniel Chapo. “We see that Mozambique has many projects. At present, these are very ambitious projects, and we believe that the Omatapalo Group can be part of the future that Mozambique offers over the coming years,” said the Chairman of the Board, Pedro Vieira Santos, after the meeting at the Mozambican Presidency.
Operating in sectors such as engineering and construction, public works, agribusiness, real estate, mining, fisheries, and hotel management, Omatapalo Group is one of Angola’s largest conglomerates, with operations also in Portugal. “At a structural level, the Omatapalo Group is currently mobilising its resources for Mozambique,” added Pedro Vieira Santos. He added that the group “comes” from Angola, but the “objective is to expand” its “operations in Sub-Saharan Africa.” “That is one of our objectives,” he assured regarding the expansion in Africa, emphasising that there are “conditions” to establish operations in Mozambique still in 2026.
Omatapalo – Engineering and Construction was founded in 2003 in the city of Lubango, Huíla province, Angola, following the merger of the civil construction company Carlos José Fernandes, from Caminha in northern Portugal, with over 70 years of experience, and CNS Norte. It currently also operates in Spain, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Namibia, among other countries.
