A domestic dispute turned deadly in Rockdale, Epworth, after a 25-year-old man allegedly killed his father-in-law during a violent altercation The suspect, Brian Chikwenjere, is currently on the run following the tragic incident The confrontation reportedly began after Chikwenjere assaulted his wife, Shalome Kwenda, prompting her to flee their home Outraged by the abuse of his daughter, 48-year-old Aaron Kwenda confronted his son-in-law later that evening around 8 PM
According to police reports, Aaron teamed up with a friend, Joseph Gwarada (46), to confront Chikwenjere at a local tuck shop An argument quickly escalated into a physical fight “One of the tenants at the house indicated that the accused person’s wife ran away after being thoroughly beaten by the accused,” said Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza “This did not go down well with the now deceased, who went after the accused who was now in the tuck shop, grabbed his collar and pulled him outside.”
Inspector Chakanza added, “A fight ensued and that is when the friend intervened and tried to restrain the accused who was now assaulting the now deceased all over the body using clenched fists.”
Events took a gruesome turn when Chikwenjere allegedly ran behind the tuck shop, picked up a burning log from the fire, and struck Gwarada on the head
When Aaron tried to intervene, he was also attacked “The accused person then turned and struck him once on his forehead with the log and he fell to the ground,” said Inspector Chakanza Aaron died at the scene, while Gwarada sustained a nose injury, swollen hands, and complained of rib pain Chikwenjere reportedly placed the bloodied log beside his father-in-law’s lifeless body before fleeing into the night
“The deceased’s body was ferried to Chitungwiza Hospital Mortuary for postmortem,” said Chakanza “Police are investigating a murder case involving in-laws at Rockdale in Epworth.”
