A 45 YEAR OLD man was arrested at the border, as he tried to flee into Mozambique, after allegedly killing his 50 year old wife. Elliot Nyambira, of Masvingo, was nabbed following the death of Muchaneta Makuwaza. Nyambira was arrested in Chimanimani as he tried to cross into Mozambique.

Police officers, acting on a tip off, stopped and arrested Nyambira at a roadblock near the border post. The incident, which led to Makuwaza’s death, is still being investigated. A post mortem examination is expected to confirm the cause of death.

Acting Manicaland police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, confirmed the arrest. He said Nyambira allegedly murdered his wife on February 16. “He travelled overnight towards the eastern border, allegedly intending to cross into Mozambique through an illegal entry point.

“On February 17, ZRP Chimanimani received a tip off that the accused, who was being sought in connection with a murder case that occurred in Masvingo the previous day, was on the run and heading towards the border,” said Ass- Insp Chinyoka. “Police acted on the information and intercepted the suspect while he was trying to cross the border. He was arrested and taken to ZRP Chimanimani.

He is expected to be transferred to Gutu for further investigations and court proceedings. “We continue to urge members of the public to resolve their disputes peacefully and to seek assistance from community leaders, the police or relevant authorities instead of taking the law into their own hands. “Domestic violence and murder are serious offences that attract heavy penalties.”
