AN Epworth woman deceived a teenage girl by pretending that she was a MAN and even hoodwinked her to flee her home and live with her as ‘HUSBAND AND WIFE.’ Shamiso Melinda Sigara, 18, of Overspill, Epworth, has been arrested and appeared in court over the weekend facing charges of aggravated indecent assault. The complainant is a 16-year-old girl. Shamiso was not asked to plead when she appeared before Harare magistrate Jessie Kufa.
According to the State, Shamiso allegedly first approached the complainant in November last year and presented herself as a man when she proposed her love for the teenager. The minor is said to have accepted the love proposal. Prosecutors claim that on February 12, this year, Shamiso arranged for the complainant to move into her home so they could live together as husband and wife.
She complied and left her home to live with Shamiso. The State claims that during the night, while the two were asleep, Shamiso inserted an unidentified object into the complainant’s private parts twice while pretending to possess male genitalia. The complainant reported the incident to her mother who then filed a police report the following day.

She revealed, in the charges that she filed, that she suspected that Shamiso was a woman who was pretending to be a man. Shamiso was subsequently arrested and she was remanded in custody pending bail considerations.
