In a recent interview, Kapere accused members of the comedy fraternity of repeatedly overlooking him when selecting performers for stage shows—opportunities he says are vital to earning a livelihood. Kapere lamented that while other comedians, including Amooti Omubalanguzi, regularly receive performance slots, he has been consistently left out. Speaking emotionally, he questioned whether recognition for his work would only come after his death rather than during his lifetime, when he is still active in the industry.
“I’m told Alex Muhangi is the president of the Uganda Comedians Federation, yet he has never invited me to any comedy event. I don’t know what I did wrong. Since he started Comedy Store UG, he has never hired me.
Why don’t they love me? Will they only appreciate me when I’m gone?” Kapere said. In a dramatic declaration, the comedian went further to announce that, should the situation remain unchanged, he does not want fellow comedians to attend his funeral or contribute towards his family.
