Losing a person of distinction is among the most emotionally difficult and universal of human experiences. International human rights icon, Jesse Jackson, died at 84. The death of Jesse Jackson is an incalculable blow because no one ever can capture his concern for humanity.
He stood with the masses during the darkest days of racism. He was a force of nature. His ability to achieve the unachievable against unsurmountable odds was proven time and again and spoke to his absolute passion for the welfare of his friends and beloved community.
In a world that’s often divisive, myopic and unkind, there were good people like Jackson who made every effort to know other people. Duty, decency, reliability, honour, dignity, respect — these are the qualities he practised every day during his time on earth. His finest quality was his patience, an inherent ability to listen, to absorb and to offer a point of view based on quiet, measured wisdom.
