I recently took a friend to Pietermaritzburg Airport in Oribi. I left Howick at 5.15am and got back at 7.15am. I am appalled and disgusted at the behaviour of Howick motorists at that time of day.
They have no regard for traffic lights and four-way stops. The taxis stop to load and unload passengers in the middle of the road, but not a traffic officer in sight. On the other hand, a person in the middle of the day gets fined R500 for having a green personalised number plate instead of a blue one.
Mayor Chris Pappas, what are the priorities of your traffic department? Is it targeting people for their incorrect number plates who are not a threat to anyone, or is it the reckless drivers with the correct number plates who have no regard for road safety or courtesy? Or maybe they work only from 8am to 5pm?
