The Minister of Local Government and Public Works, Honourable Daniel Garwe on Friday visited the City of Bulawayo, where he held an interactive session with Councillors and Management led by His Worship, Senator David Coltart, the Mayor The meeting was held in the Council Chamber where the Minister revealed that Central Government will support local authorities in addressing problems caused by informal traders operating from undesignated sites Minister Garwe stated that Government will be enforcing the ban on the importation and sale of second-hand clothes as well as street vending While the City of Bulawayo has long requested Central Government to empower Municipal Police with arresting powers, Minister Garwe revealed that in two weeks, his Ministry will present a proposal before Cabinet to allow Municipal police to have arresting powers
In the meeting, Senator Coltart also highlighted the challenges that the City is facing in dealing with informal sector players and appealed for support from law enforcement agents in bringing order to the City.
