Zambia’s Ambassador to Japan, Tobias Mulimbika, has reaffirmed his country’s commitment to strengthening bilateral trade and economic relations with Namibia. Mulimbika highlighted that Zambia and Namibia shared long-standing ties rooted in historical solidarity, particularly Zambia’s support during Namibia’s liberation struggle. He made the remarks during a courtesy call by Namibia’s Ambassador-Designate to Japan, Rosina Hoabes, at the Zambian Mission in Tokyo, according to a statement by Faith Chilube, First Secretary for Press and Public at the Zambian Embassy.

Mulimbika said both countries were now focused on deepening cooperation in areas including economic partnerships, infrastructure development, trade facilitation, and regional security. He also emphasized collaboration among Southern African diplomatic missions in Tokyo, including engagement with the Democratic Republic of the Congo, to attract investment into strategic regional corridors and advance economic integration within the Southern African Development Community. Mulimbika called for increased trade and exports between Zambia and Namibia, citing both countries’ geographic advantages and infrastructure as potential catalysts for investment and regional growth.

In her remarks, Hoabes thanked Zambia for its historic support during Namibia’s liberation struggle and expressed optimism for expanded cooperation in trade, investment, and other areas of mutual interest. The meeting reaffirmed the strong bilateral ties between Zambia and Namibia and underscored their shared commitment to advancing economic diplomacy and regional development.
